Here are some tips for new authors who are about to read their books in public for the first time:

1. Make sure to look up at the audience – people like eye contact.

2. Read slowly and clearly – the audience wants to be able to hear you and you want to sell what you have written.

3. Practice at home first – make sure when you read aloud it doesn’t sound as if you are reading something you didn’t write. Know the cadence of the sentences well.

4. Speak up – readings are boring when you can’t hear the author.

5. Engage the audience – if you are reading from the middle of your story, fill in the audience so they know what has taken place before hand. The audience needs to be pulled into the story, which brings more interest in buying your book.
