Silent Voice

Djungarian hamster in sawdust Like a hamster’s squeak, everyone has that tiny voice inside them, the one that whispers wisdom when they do something they shouldn’t. When was the last time you stifled that small voice of wisdom? What were the circumstances? How did things fare out? What do you wish you listed to?

Fields At The Rainbows End Texas is under siege by the weather. Thousands are homeless with nothing more than bare feet and the pants on their butts. Please take this time to write out each and every blessing. I suggest you start out like this. I’m blessed for waking up in my own bed. I’m blessed I can walk to my bathroom to pee. I’m blessed I can go into my refrigerator and remove food for breakfast. When you are pushed out of your home, every moment of every hour has changed. You have no where to go. You have only survival on your mind. I know this personally. Since 2001 I have lost 3 homes and 4 households. Rebuilding a life takes years, decades. I know. I am still rebuilding. Please give thanks. Know how blessed you are. Disasters don’t come with a new life already mapped out. You have to create it from tears, sweat, pleading, praying, great faith, much hope, and the ability to move on to each new second with fortitude.

Empowered. A wonderful word from the 70’s. But not everyone feels empowered all the time or has learned how to be empowered. Write out a time when you wish you felt more empowered or a time when you did. Write all all the details.

Nana Food. It holds so many memoires. Our recipes get passed down from generation to generation just like handmade rugs, hats, and bedspreads. Food is a powerful way to keep our heritage alive. I can’t eat lemon meringue pie without remembering my Nana’s lemon meringue pie. Her recipe, memorized so no recipe could be written to get the pie right, was the best. How she cooked it so the peaks were always brown on their tips, and the lemon part was just tart enough, I’ll never know. Even when I sat in front of her one day and tried to write her pinch and handful ingredient measurements, I couldn’t do it.

What heritage of recipes do you have? Whose were they? Do you make them yourself? What memories do they conjure up?

moonkissingtheseaThings aren’t always what they appear to be. For instance, this moon is not sitting on the ocean, even though we refer to it as that. How often do you have to explain facts about your life, your personal qualities, actions you take? How often do you get challenged or misunderstood? Write about one situation that you want to clear up. Why is it important to clear it up? Who are you wanting to understand the truth?
