Me and Dad 1987

Today I remember my dad. I still miss him so much. I remember when he:

  • took me out for pistachio ice cream
  • carried me over the hot sand until we reached the ocean’s waves
  • drove me to teen parties 30 minutes away then returned to pick me up at midnight in the snow
  • went to the German bakery early on Sunday mornings to buy hot rolls for breakfast and remembered to buy me a tiny cherry pie because it was my favorite
  • spent evenings watching cowboy TV shows together
  • went out on cold nights and returned with a bag of hot chestnuts
  • taught me how to ride a bike
  • picked me up from the airport when I came home from college, even though my mother was angry at him for doing it — my mother did not want me to go to college — she wanted me in Brooklyn having babies
  • taught me how to swim and so much more. . .

Thanks Dad.

Keep the pen moving,
