Walking into the Unknown

Filed under: Journal writing — freethepen @ 1:42 pm

Kids with chef hats preparing the cake dough - mixing ingredient  Have you ever tried something new, something that took you into the unknown? It could be as simple as having a friend teach you how to put together the ingredients for banana bread, to spelunking, to hiking into the woods.

What was it like before the unknown was revealed? What did you feel? What did you expect? What were you afraid of? Where were you? Who were you with?

Tell it all.

KODAK Digital Still Camera Sometimes it is the deep green of a cypress tree or the lime green field of long grass that can spellbind us. What memory do you have of the color green? A crayon, pistachio ice cream, Aunt Mabel’s old and ragged tablecloth? Write it all out. Include the five senses, people, location, and other details involved.

The Color White

Funny Boy Playing In A Snow Igloo On A Sunny Winter Day Write all you know about the color white. Don’t think — just begin writing about what you don’t know and it will lead you to what you do know. Thinking can be a form of censoring. Just begin!

Dessert

Filed under: memoir — freethepen @ 1:49 pm

bigstock-Freshly-baked-peanut-butter-co-38755924 Everyone has one dessert or one cookie that is their very favorite. My father only ate his sister’s cheesecake, a recipe she got from the New York Times. She made it every holiday. It had a denser texture than the cheesecakes they serve in restaurants in California which are creamy and silky. What is your favorite? Who makes it? Where did the recipe come from. What are your memories of it?
